Being an American - Essay Contest
Student Colloquium
William Peterson
Tuesday April 6th, 2:30, PAC
Ridgeview Classical Schools is proud to announce that its freshman William Peterson has won first prize in the “Being American” essay contest, sponsored by the Bill of Rights Institute. William won against high school contestants from nine states in the mountain region to receive a 5000$ cash prize and trip to Washington, D.C. The Bill of Rights Institute's challenge was to answer the question: “What civic value do you believe is most essential to being an American?” William argued on behalf of disinterestedness and was chosen as one of the nine first prize winners out of over 50.000 participants. Mr. Anderson was honored together with William as his American history teacher. Just a few weeks before winning this national contest, William had also won first prize in Ridgeview's “American Ideals” essay contest.
William will give a colloquium in which he combines the best of his two essays to present his thoughts on what he has learned about the meaning of America. This presentation will be held at Ridgeview Classical Schools, next Tuesday (April 6) at 2:30pm in our performing arts center. Please plan to join us.
