    Official Constitution

    I. Purpose Statement

    We the students of Ridgeview Classical Schools, in order to bring together and enlighten fellow students in the goals and workings of this school, foster school pride, establish school traditions, and unify the school as a whole, hereby establish a student government. This Student Government will operate according to the terms of the following constitution.

    II. Offices

    A. President
    B. Vice President
    C. Secretary
    D. Treasurer
    E. Parliamentarian
    F. Class Representatives

    III. Election Requirements

    A. President

    i. junior at the time of the election
    ii. honor student for the entire year of the election
    iii. attended Ridgeview for the entire year of the election
    iv. full-time student for year of election and the year of the term of office
    v. approval by all his or her teachers; questions will be left to the Principal
    vi. no suspensions or expulsions; Principal can override this
    vii. runs with a candidate for Vice President
    viii. must have served on Student Government at Ridgeview

    B. Vice President

    i. Sophomore or junior at the time of election
    ii. honor student for the entire year of the election
    iii. attended Ridgeview for the entire year of the election
    iv. approval by all his or her teachers; questions will be left to the Principal
    v. no suspensions or expulsions; Principal can override this
    vi. full-time student for year of the election and year of the term of office
    vii. runs with a candidate for President

    C. Secretary

    i. freshman, sophomore, or junior at the time of election
    ii. G.P.A. = 2,5 and above for the entire year of the election
    iii. attended Ridgeview for the entire year of the election
    iv. approval by all his or her teachers; questions will be left up to the Principal
    v. no suspensions or expulsions; Principal can override this
    vi. full time student for year of the election and year of the tern

    D. Treasurer

    i. freshman, sophomore, or junior at the time of the election
    ii. G.P.A. = 2.5 or above for the entire year of the election
    iii. attended Ridgeview for the entire year of the election
    iv. approval by all teachers; questions will be left up to the Principal
    v. no suspensions or expulsions; Principal can override this
    vi. fill-time student for year of the. election and year of the term
    vii. taking geometry or a higher math class with an 80% or higher for
    the entire year of the election

    E. Parliamentarian

    i. appointed by the Principal with appointee's consent

    F. Class Representatives

    i. must be in the same grade as the grade they are going to represent; must have been at Ridgeview for their entire previous school year
    ii. full-time student
    iii. G.P.A. = 2.5 or above for the entire year of election

    IV. Job Descriptions

    A. President

    i. runs meetings
    ii. coordinates activities
    iii. head of activities committees
    iv. also shall follow further duties as stated in Robert's Rules of Order, sections 1-11
    v. states what is to be voted on, at the proper time

    B. Vice President

    i. given specific events or assignments
    ii. helps the President run meetings and activities

    C. Secretary

    i. takes down the minutes of the meetings
    ii. types the minutes and keeps them in an orderly file
    iii. also will follow further duties as stated in Robert's Rules of Order sections 1-5, 7-10

    D. Treasurer

    i. keeps track of the Student Government accounts
    ii. head of the fundraising committee
    iii responsible for all money coming and going through Student Government

    E. Parliamentarian

    i. advises President and members on parliamentary procedure
    ii. runs and counts votes

    F. Class Representatives

    i. represent their classes
    ii. vote
    iii. participate in committees

    C. Committees are formed by the President to execute the decisions voted for by Student Council

    VI. Election Procedure

    A. President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer

    i. held the first week of May, and will not take office until the last day of school
    ii. every full-time high school student may vote
    iii. one vote from each person for each office; every vote is equal
    iv. must be present at school at the time of voting on the day of the election to vote

    B. Class Representatives

    i. held two weeks after the officers’ election (for President, Vice President, etc.); will not take office until the last day of school
    ii. only student in the same grade as the candidate may vote for the candidate
    iii. one vote per person
    iv. must be present at school at the time of voting on the day of the election
    v. a class of 29 or fewer will have 2 representatives in the Student Government.

    If the number of students exceeds 29, 3 representatives are allowed, if the number of students exceeds 39, 4 representatives are allowed, etc.

    VII. Additional Information

    A. Quorum

    i. quorum is obtained by having 2/3 of the total elected body present
    ii. the elected body consists of the' President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Class Representatives
    iii. for a meeting to take place the President or, Vice President must be present during the meeting, the Parliamentarian must as well be present
    iv. a quorum must be present for bills to be voted upon

    B. Order of Succession

    i. Vice President to President, the Vice President is then appointed by the President after going through the eligibility process
    ii. Class Representatives are replaced by another election held by the class
    iii. the Treasurer and the Secretary positions are refilled by the Student Government appointing another eligible person to the position

    C. The Passing of Bills

    i. bills are passed by more than 1/2 of a quorum during a scheduled meeting

    D. Amendment Clause

    i. amendments will be added to the Constitution in the following way
    ii. week 1-

    a) proposal of amendment
    b) entertainment vote (standard vote)
    c) notification to high school students of debate on amendment

    iii. week 2 -

    a) official debate with administration present

    iv. week 3 -

    a) official debate with administration present
    b) finalize Amendment
    c) approval by administration
    d) vote; amendments are passed by more than a 1.4 vote in favor of the Amendment by the total voting Student Government
    e) amendment enacted
    f) added in by secretary

    v. week 4 -

    a) amendment presented by secretary
